After Pittsburgh’s first two series on Sunday, Steelers running back Najee Harris had 8 yards on two carries and 45 yards on four receptions, getting six touches on the offense’s first 10 snaps. The former Alabama All-American still had 14 carries for 67 yards and one touchdown and two receptions for 11 yards in front of him during Pittsburgh’s AFC North shootout with the Cincinnati Bengals.
But not until after a break for about a quarter, which turned out to be one Pittsburgh possession.
Harris wasn’t feeling well, and he blamed Thanksgiving dinner with Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth.
“Thanksgiving, Pat’s girlfriend, Jill, she made this fire-ass little banana thing,” Harris said, “and I had too much. I guess I didn’t know that it affected me until that first drive, so I blame her.”
Harris didn’t go back on the field after being pushed out of bounds on an 8-yard reception with about eight minutes left in the first quarter. He didn’t get the ball again until 9:08 remained in the first half.
“I got some oranges,” Harris said, “and I was good.”
The Steelers trailed 21-14 by the time Harris got back on the field, but the running back scored on a 10-yard run on his return series to tie the score. Pittsburgh went on to post a 44-38 victory, with Harris helping to close out the final 2:39 with a pair of carries.
The Steelers rebounded from a 24-19 loss to the Cleveland Browns in the snow on Nov. 21 to lift their record to 9-3 with Sunday’s victory over Cincinnati.
Carrying a 1.5-game lead in the AFC North with five weeks remaining in the regular season, Steelers have a rematch with the Browns at noon CST Sunday at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
