Stefon Diggs has worn only two numbers throughout his 10-year NFL career.
He donned No. 14 with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, where he was a four-time Pro Bowler. Diggs switched to No. 1 last season — a number he wore in high school and college — with the Houston Texans.
But Diggs faces a jersey conundrum now that he signed a savvy contract with the New England Patriots. Both of Diggs’ previous numbers are taken with the Patriots giving No. 14 to recently signed linebacker Robert Spillane and second-year wideout Ja’Lynn Polk owns No. 1.
Perhaps, Diggs can assert his veteran status and take No. 1 from Polk. But Diggs relayed he won’t go that route when answering questions on social media.
“Nah we (don’t) do that & young boy boutta have a good year … believe in em,” Diggs posted on his Instagram story.

The message from Diggs is contrary to the perception of him being a diva wide receiver. It actually shows good leadership from Diggs as he tries to instill some confidence in Polk. Polk, a second-round pick for the Patriots a year ago, had a disastrous rookie season in which he caught just 12 passes on 37 targets for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
Diggs also ruled out choosing a number in the 80s after a fan suggested he wear No. 88.
“No lie ion even think I feel right in the 80s,” Diggs wrote.
There aren’t too many numbers available for Diggs. Maybe he settles with another number in the teens. Nos. 16 and 18 are open at the moment and those could be to Diggs’ liking.
