Cowboys fans share their sorrow: Trent Williams and his wife announce the death of their stillborn son.

Sondra Williams, the wife of San Francisco 49ers star Trent Williams, shared the tragic news that their son, Trenton, passed away from a still birth November 24.

The couple, who share three children together, had previously lost Trenton’s twin early on in the pregnancy, with the family tragedy having not been previously discussed publicly.

“I prayed and hoped that your diagnosis of Trisomy 13 wasn’t true and wouldn’t be the fate of my long-awaited beautiful Son-shine,” Sondra wrote as part of a lengthy Instagram post Saturday afternoon.

“My firstborn and only son, I’ve always wanted you.

But God wanted and needed you more. Knowing you are in Heaven with your Great-Aunt Vivian and that you will Always be our Guardian Angel brings me great comfort in the midst of all this sorrow.”

Trisomy 13, also known as Patau syndrome, is a condition in which a person is born with an extra chromosome 13.

According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, just half of babies with the condition survive the first two weeks after birth and fewer than 10 percent will live past their first birthday.

Williams was selected with the fourth overall pick in 2010 and has certainly lived up to his lofty draft stock over the past 14 seasons, earning 11 Pro Bowl appearances and three All-Pro selections.

He missed the 2019 season due to a personal battle with life-threatening sarcoma on his scalp, managing to return the following season and maintaining his all-NFL form with the 49ers.

It’s been a devastating couple months off the field for the 49ers roster as cornerback Charvarius Ward lost his one-year old daughter, who was down with Down syndrome and experienced heart issues since birth.

San Francisco faced off against Buffalo Sunday afternoon, with the charitable Bills Mafia partnering with his Chance With Chavarius organization, aiding those affected by Down syndrome.

Ward missed the 49ers’ three previous games but returned to the team as a full participant in Wednesday’s practice and featured in Sunday’s road loss.
