Green Bay Packers Could Make Shocking Trade to Shake Up Offensive Line

The Green Bay Packers have prioritized adding quality depth along the offensive line this offseason, but could potentially pull off a blockbuster trade to acquire draft capital and shakeup the starting tackle spots.

Zone Coverage’s Dan Saia suggests that the Packers could shop starting offensive tackle, and former seventh round pick out of Penn State, Rasheed Walker in trade talks over the next several weeks.

Saia suggests that since both Walker and Zack Tom are each up for contract extensions in the very near future, that Green Bay could prioritize committing to Tom, who has been one of the most consistently dominant players across the offensive line in recent years, over Walker.

“Tom has arguably been Green Bay’s best offensive lineman since taking over at right tackle,” Saia writes for Zone Coverage.

“In 2024, he earned an 87.6 grade from Pro Football Focus, ranking as the fourth-highest-rated tackle in the league. He was also named PFF’s first-team All-Pro at right tackle, beating out stars like Lane Johnson and Penei Sewell. He is a core piece of Green Bay’s future, and the Packers are expected to extend him – it’s just a matter of how long and how much they’ll have to pay.”

Green Bay Packers, Rasheed Walker

While Tom may be performing at a higher level, much more consistently than Walker, there’s a chance that dealing Walker could fetch a bounty given the premium teams place on offensive tackles across the league and the need so many teams have at the position at the moment.

Last season, Walker only allowed four sacks and three quarterback hits, which could make him an attractive option for a team that believes it’s on the cusp of competing and would prefer a more accomplished and proven tackle than one of the top prospects in this year’s draft class.
