FRISCO – Micah Parsons’ contract extension was the first order of business for the Dallas Cowboys heading into the offseason. Unfortunately, Parsons and the rest of Cowboys Nation are awaiting for the gears to get turning on that front with the calendar now past the major wave of free agency.
The questions about that deal will remain front of mind through the coming weeks, but will soon take a backseat, or perhaps the passenger seat in this case, to another major event. April 24 marks the start of the NFL Draft and eyes will be on Dallas to see what “America’s Team” will do with the No. 12 overall pick.
Early indications pointed to a homecoming for Frisco native Ashton Jeanty, but those connections have since died down. One, because the Cowboys are looking at an assortment of needs besides their backfield, but also because Jeanty’s own stock has increased.
The Boise State product will likely hear his name called before the Cowboys are on the clock. And more likely than not, Dallas will be justifiably content with taking a tantalizing player at that spot.
However, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has urged the Cowboys to get creative and make a move up the board. But that move is not just for Jeanty, rather, he believes they should trade up for Travis Hunter.
“I miss the days when the Cowboys were aggressive & fun,” Jeremiah wrote on his social media. “Spice it up. Trade up for Travis Hunter.”
Hunter won the Heisman Trophy last season at Colorado and is one of the most fascinating prospects in years. While he will likely have his talents focused on the defensive side, he is a proven two-way star.
He is almost a lock for the top five and perhaps the top three in this draft. Regardless, Jeremiah insists on the Cowboys being bold here.
The Cowboys are not accustomed to such behavior in recent years, but instead of focusing on any risk, the motivation behind snagging Hunter centers on getting the best player in the class.
