The Patriots have brought in another receiving option for second-year quarterback Drake Maye.
New England has reportedly signed Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million deal with $26 million guaranteed. Diggs, who had been one of the top free agents still left on the open market, visited the Patriots last week before inking the deal.
Former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky likes the move for New England — if Diggs is healthy.
“Stef Diggs to New England coming off the injury, if he’s healthy, it’s a worthy signing,” Orlovsky said in a reaction video he posted on X. “New England had to add perimeter players. Steph played really good football last year before the injury, and obviously, the injury matters in this conversation. But if he is healthy, that is a massive upgrade on the perimeter for Drake Maye.”
Diggs is coming off a season with the Houston Texans that ended after suffering an ACL tear in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts. He is on track to return for Week 1 of the upcoming season, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The four-time Pro Bowler joins a receiving corps with free agent signing Mack Hollins, veteran Kendrick Bourne and third-year players Kayshon Boutte and DeMario Douglas among those near the top of the depth chart, with Diggs more than likely becoming Maye’s top target.
