Although they added to their backfield in free agency, the Dallas Cowboys could still use another running back.
This offseason, the Cowboys let RB Rico Dowdle sign a one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Carolina Panthers. In 2024, Dowdle tied for 12th in the NFL in rushing yards, with 1,079 in 16 games.
To replace him, Dallas signed RBs Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams to one-year deals. Sanders ran for 205 yards in 11 games with the Panthers in 2024, while Williams rushed for 513 in 17 games with the Denver Broncos.
Dallas may be planning to draft an RB with pick No. 12 to bolster its rushing attack.

On Monday, The Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins reported Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty is scheduled to visit with the Cowboys on April 4.
Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling rates the 5-foot-8, 211-pounder as the top RB in the draft class. Mike Renner of CBS Sports would agree with that assessment.
“Ashton Jeanty is the best running back in at least seven years,” Renner told The 33rd Team on March 20. “I think he’s better than Bijan [Robinson]. I think he’s more NFL-ready than Bijan.”
The Atlanta Falcons took Robinson out of Texas with pick No. 8 in the 2023 NFL draft. In his first two seasons in Atlanta, the 23-year-old has rushed for 2,432 yards and 18 touchdowns and earned one Pro Bowl nod.
After rushing for 2,601 yards in 14 games in 2024, Jeanty won the Doak Walker Award as college football’s best RB. Robinson also won the award in 2022.
