Report: Dallas Cowboys’ Perfect Cooper Kupp Consolation Prize Revealed

The Dallas Cowboys have yet to make a big splash at wide receiver, and likely still need to add to quarterback Dak Prescott’s arsenal in order to start making up ground on the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders in the NFC East.

After Brandin Cooks returned to the New Orleans Saints, in free agency, the Cowboys are left with Jalen Tolbert opposite CeeDee Lamb at wide receiver, and may need to prioritize the position both with a veteran signing and an early-round pick in next month’s NFL Draft.

Could The Dallas Cowboys Target Stefon Diggs?

The Cowboys’ search for a receiver could lead to a reclamation project in free agency.

CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin suggests that the Cowboys could be an ideal fit for veteran receiver Stefon Diggs, who is working his way back from a torn ACL suffered last season with the Houston Texans.

“Dallas reportedly tried to land Cooper Kupp before the ex-Los Angeles Rams star joined the Seahawks,” Benjamin writes for CBS Sports. “So they’d clearly like to install a route-running savant opposite CeeDee Lamb. Diggs is aging, but he’s been just that for much of his career. His brother, Trevon Diggs, also plays for the Cowboys.”

At this stage in their respective careers, Diggs and Kupp share some similar traits, so it would be easy to see why the Cowboys may be interested in taking a flier on the 31-year-old who is a year removed from a 1,100-yard season in Josh Allen’s arsenal.

However, any contract offer Diggs receives at this stage could ultimately be a one-year prove-it deal which would obviously take much of the risk off the table for the Cowboys.

Likewise, even if the Cowboys sign Diggs, who has caught 857 yards for 10,491 yards with 70 touchdowns, given the injury concerns and where he is at this stage of his career, Diggs is likely a piece of the puzzle rather than the focal point of revamping the receiving corps this offseason.
