The Patriots would welcome some risk if they signed Stefon Diggs.
Diggs has had a penchant for drama throughout his NFL career, which Mike Vrabel could view as a potential detriment to the culture he’s trying to build in New England. But arguably the most concerning element of Diggs’ potential fit in Foxboro, Mass., is his health.
The veteran wide receiver tore his ACL in late October, which limited his 2024 season to eight games.
Completely bouncing back from such a serious knee injury is challenging for any skill-position player, let alone someone who turns 32 in November. But according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Diggs’ chances of returning to his typical self might be higher than most think.
“League sources have described Diggs as ahead of schedule, already running full speed and gaining increased comfort cutting and changing direction,” Reiss wrote in a column published Sunday.
Diggs left his two-day visit to New England without a deal, which suggested he’s not hell-bent on playing for the Patriots and is curious to see what else is out there.
However, if the signs eventually reach a deal, Diggs would have a chance to be a legitimate difference-maker for a team that hasn’t had a dynamic offense in years.
