The New England Patriots have made several upgrades in free agency, but one area on their roster that still needs help is the wide receiver position.
On Wednesday night, the team took their first step towards addressing this spot by bringing in former Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs for a free agent visit.
Diggs is quite familiar with the Patriots, as he spent four seasons torching them while with the Buffalo Bills.
Now, after tearing his ACL in 2024 while with the Texans, Diggs is searching for a new home, and he ended up making his first move in free agency by taking a trip out to Foxboro, MA to visit with New England.
“Stefon Diggs is in Foxboro to meet with the New England Patriots, according to a source.
The Patriots badly need WR help and Diggs could provide that even if he may not be ready Week 1 as he recovers from an ACL tear,” Chad Graff of The Athletic shared in a post on X.
Given how barren the Patriots wide receiver room is, they could desperately use Diggs, even if he isn’t immediately at 100% health as he continues to recover from his ACL injury.
However, while the meeting was productive, he ended up leaving town without a deal in place.
“Stefon Diggs is on his way home now after a good visit with the Patriots. New England able to gather some info, and Diggs got a chance to take his first visit.
They’ll keep talking,” Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported on Thursday. Stefon Diggs is on his way home now after a good visit with the Patriots. New England able to gather some info, and Diggs got a chance to take his first visit.

Prior to this, he earned four straight Pro Bowl selections during his time with the Bills, establishing himself as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
