Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons is heading into the final season of his rookie deal: a fifth-year option worth $24 million.
As one of the league’s premier defenders, Parsons is looking for a highly-lucrative, longterm contract before his fifth professional season. According to reports, a contract for Parsons could yield somewhere around $40 million per year.
On Tuesday, there were some rumblings that Parsons and the Cowboys were actively finalizing a deal to keep him in Dallas longterm.
Those rumors were shut down by a report from NFL Network insider Jane Slater, who says the two sides haven’t had any “meaningful talks” to this point.
“While there is chatter on Twitter about Micah Parsons and a contract extension being finalized, I checked. Not only is it NOT done but what would be characterized as meaningful talks haven’t even begun yet per two sources informed,” Slater reported on Tuesday evening.

Fans took to social media to react to this news.
“Jerry likes to wait until July when sports are dead so he can get the A block on First Take,” one wrote.
“Let Micah walk and I [expletive] walk too lol I can only be apart of this for so long,” another added.
“What are they waiting for bro,” another said.

Through his first four NFL seasons, Parsons has logged 52.5 sacks, 256 tackles, 63 tackles for loss and 112 quarterback hits. At 25 years old, he already has a Defensive Rookie of the Year award, two First Team All-Pro honors and four Pro-Bowl selections.
In 13 games this past season, Parsons recorded 12.0 sacks, 43 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 23 QB hits.
Last month, Parsons said the Cowboys have a “plan in place” for reaching a longterm contract extension.
“I really have a lot of respect for Jerry [Jones],” Parsons said. “We have great conversations all the time. There’s definitely a plan in place, but we’ll just see how everything plays out. There’s been no progress yet, but I’m pretty confident that something will happen, so we’ll see.”
