One New England Patriots insider thinks two potential trade options might still be on the table for the team after missing on key wide receiver targets in free agency.
Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard believes that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown and San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk could still be options for the Patriots.
Brown is coming off a Super Bowl-winning season that saw him record 67 catches for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns.
Aiyuk finished his 2024 season with 25 catches for 374 yards, before going down with a torn ACL and MCL.
Bedard wrote:
“Just like last offseason, I still believe in my bones the Patriots will find that receiver via trade, among the likes of AJ Brown and Brandon Aiyuk. The latter is the best option given the firesale in San Francisco, but he won’t be ready until at least midseason after major knee surgery.”
Either one of those two options would be an upgrade for the Patriots at the wide receiver position.
It’s currently slim pickings in free agency with aging veterans at the top of the list of available options.
The best two options remaining for the Patriots are either a trade or hitting on a top-tier wideout in the 2025 NFL draft.
