Former Steelers WR reveals candid feelings about his 2024 season after leaving Pittsburgh: ‘It’s horrible’

Mike Williams, Preston Smith join Pittsburgh Steelers in trades

Between his time with the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Williams had the worst year of his career. He was one of the worst separators in the entire NFL, and while he did have the ability to make contested catches, those chances only came few and far between.

Williams was traded to the Steelers from the Jets for a fifth-round pick just before the trade deadline. All in all, in his first year coming back from an ACL tear, Williams took a step back. He had just 21 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown, which came against the Washington Commanders to help the Steelers pull off that upset.

He now wants to make amends for that year and could do so with his old team, the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Last year was terrible for me. I’m just being honest. It was terrible. Probably the worst year I’ve had in the league by far,” Williams said. “So I’m just putting it in the past, that was the past, and I’m trying to make it feel like it didn’t happen for me.”

Williams was the Chargers’ first-round pick of Clemson in the 2017 NFL Draft and became a key jump ball wide receiver for the team throughout his career. Now, he goes back to a familiar team and culture that should allow him to regain form.
