The Green Bay Packers have started off their offseason by signing former San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Aaron Banks and former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs.
Both of those players project to be instant impact players for the Packers in 2025. They’re both quality moves, but there are other holes that general manager Brian Gutekunst will need to fill.
One of the remaining needs for Green Bay is improving its pass rush. Jeff Hafley did an excellent job in his first season as the Packers’ defensive coordinator, but the pass rush was not where it needed to be.
While a lot of pass rushers have already been scooped up by other teams in free agency, there are still a few interesting options left on the market.
Brian Sampson of Dairyland Express has suggested four names that Green Bay could consider pursuing.
“The best defensive ends remaining on The Athletic’s Top 150 rankings are Za’Darius Smith at 22 (no thanks), Von Miller at 59, Azeez Ojulari at 82, and Dante Fowler at 96.”
Looking at those options, they won’t excite the Packers. Smith is an obvious no go due to his bad blood with Green Bay. If he were to drop the feud and come in to help the Packers compete for a Super Bowl, he could be a potential fit.
Von Miller is too old for Green Bay to consider. Both Azeez Ojulari and Dante Fowler Jr. would be solid options and could help the Packers fill their pass rushing need.
It will be interesting to see if Green Bay does end up signing a free agent pass rusher. The front office could simply wait and try to get one in the 2025 NFL Draft.
All of that being said, these are names to keep an eye on for the Packers. They are not being officially connected to Green Bay, but taking a flier on one of them could make sense for the team.
