Cooper Kupp’s next destination is a mystery, but he more than likely won’t remain with the Los Angeles Rams.
While the team has tried to trade the veteran wideout, reports indicate LA will cut Kupp after the 2025 league year begins Wednesday if they can’t find a suitor for him.
That leaves, in theory, 31 possible other teams who could sign Kupp. It’s unclear which teams interest him, but one team he could be eyeing is the New England Patriots. Kupp is reportedly “curious” about playing for the Patriots, according to The Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan.
“According to a league source, Kupp is curious about the prospect of playing in New England and has shared that curiosity with some close to him,” Callahan wrote. “Kupp has personal and professional connections to Patriots, starting with ex-college teammate and fellow wideout Kendrick Bourne, who has repeatedly advocated for Kupp to come to New England on social media. The two remain friendly, sources say.”
Callahan mentioned another connection with New England: Patriots tight end coach Thomas Brown, who coached with the Rams from 2020 to 2022.
While this doesn’t necessarily mean Kupp is locked in on the Patriots if and when he’s released, it remains another possibility for him.
New England needs veterans, especially on offense with quarterback Drake Maye entering his second season.
Kupp’s market may not manifest on the trade block, but he could become coveted on the open market.
Despite his age and injury history, the 31-year-old Kupp still has at least 700 receiving yards and five touchdowns over the past seasons.
He’ll be four seasons removed from his triple-crown winning year in 2021, though, so those days may be behind him at this point.
For now, he remains a Ram. And while he will likely be cut soon, there is still a chance L.A. can trade him away for assets to a team who wants his services
