Shocking Reveals: Packers Insider Reveals Team Was Never in Hunt for 1 Wide Receiver Target

Green Bay Packers, DK Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks

The Green Bay Packers have been linked to several top-tier wide receivers since the offseason began. Unfortunately, they have missed out on every single one of them.

Tee Higgins, whom many fans viewed as a priority early, was franchise tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals and, therefore, was taken off the market.

Even with Higgins off the table, Packers fans still had hope that they would be able to land one of Davante Adams or DK Metcalf.

Many thought that Green Bay had an excellent chance at landing Adams because he had made comments about being open to a reunion with the Packers, even before the New York Jets released him.

However, news broke on Sunday that he had signed a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams.

And for a little while, those same fans held out hope that the Packers would be able to land Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks via trade. That, of course, did not happen either.

The Green Bay Packers Saw DK Metcalf Get Traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers

Hours after the news broke that Adams had signed with the Rams, reports came out that Seahawks had traded Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a second round pick. Additionally, the Steelers gave the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver a four-year $132 million contract extension, making him one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL.

The five years and $150 million mentioned in the post above includes the one year and $18 million he had left on the contract he originally signed with Seattle.

As big of a disappointment as seeing their last wide receiver target off the table, Packers fans were even more disappointed by a recent revelation that Green Bay was not even trying to get him.

Green Bay Packers Insider Reveals the Team Was Never in the Market for DK Metcalf

One of the Gutekunst lines that many fans have grown tired of hearing is that the Packers “were in the conversation.” Well, as it happens, they were not even in the conversation when it came to Metcalf.

According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:

“I’m told the PAccording to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:ackers never made an offer to the Seahawks for DK Metcalf, contrary to multiple reports. Brian Gutekunst and John Schneider are good friends from their time together in Green Bay, but a deal between the two for Metcalf was never a realistic possibility.”

The fact that Metcalf got $32 million a year on his extension is evidence enough that Green Bay was never going to be in the market for him.

Gutekunst probably knew the asking price of the extension and decided not even pursue it.
