Infamous Cy Young Winner’s $0 offer to Yankees Amid Roster Anguish Offends MLB World

Infamous Cy Young Winner's $0 offer to Yankees Amid Roster Anguish Offends MLB World - EssentiallySports

Tough times for the Yankees and their fans! The injury woes continue for them with a whole list of injured players, including Luis Gil, Giancarlo Stanton, Cole, and others, inconsistent or mediocre on the field. So, are the Yankees finished? While this may be the question among many, a sudden offer by a disreputable Cy Young winner has taken everyone by surprise.

Well, 34-year-old Trevor Bauer has placed a $0 offer that not only hurts the sentiments of many but also raises questions about the worth of the club. It’s not just the fans, but the entire MLB world that seems to be offended by the way Bauer approached the Yankees as a starting pitcher. Trevor Andrew Bauer is an American professional baseball pitcher who played for the Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars of Nippon Professional Baseball.

He even played in Major League Baseball for teams like the Cleveland Indians, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, etc., and had a 0-2 record with a 5.40 ERA along with 10 strikeouts in three of his appearances during the World Series Championship. So, now with the Yankees going through a tough phase with several players injured and a few inconsistent, be it in their defense, hitting, or offense, Bauer’s post on X, “Need a Cy Young starting pitcher for $0?” took the baseball world by storm.

Who can make such an offer to a big club like that? Does it really seem that the Yankees are worth that value, as Bauer is hoping them to get him for literally nothing? Amid all these questions, it’s also true that the Yankees look like they landed in big trouble. With so many players injured, Aaron Judge does not have the desired support, while Cody Bellinger has been highly inconsistent, Paul Goldschmidt is literally past his prime, and Volpe is just mediocre. More importantly, as both Luis Gil and Gerrit Cole are injured, two spots have opened up in the Yankees’ rotation, and that’s why Bauer made such an offer.

Fans, however, are unable to remain composed as if the roster problems were not enough, and Bauer’s remark offended them. So, let’s take a look at what they think.

Fans share their reactions to the Cy Young winner’s offer to the Yankees

Amid the Yankees’ roster problem, Trevor Bauer’s comment hasn’t been well received by the fans, as one of them commented, “Shut up.” Quite some aggression shown by the fan, isn’t it? Definitely, given that Bauer posted a 1.67 ERA and struck out 32 batters across the 27 innings where he pitched. This is still no match to the likes of Luis Gil and Gerrit Cole, who are experts as starting pitchers for the New York Yankees.

Another user on X chimed in, stating, “Dude, you threw away your career when you decided to f*ck around with a Padre hoodrat. No one wants you now, not even for $0.” Based on the response, it’s clear that Bauer wasted opportunities, and there were also allegations against him regarding a physical altercation; many blamed him for his deeds, and the Yankees wouldn’t even look at him for anything.

Liar, league minimum in $760K,” another fan noted, highlighting that no one plays for free, as the major league minimum stands at $760K. While Trevor Bauer may be looking to get footage, another user commented, “I’m actually hoping to catch a Trevor Bauer game in Japan. Saw the YouTube videos of foodies trying the food at the stadiums and showcasing the games. Looks hype.” Considering the response, he seems to have taken a humorous dig at him, comparing him with the food-lovers who try out different foods and give their opinions rather than playing their actual part. This justifies the fact that no one seems to be looking to get Bauer, even for free.

However, one ardent fan, who looks to have faith in Trevor Bauer, commented, “Please sign @BauerOutage@Yankees. I’ve been saying this for three years. The dude is fire.” So, what makes him think that Bauer might be a good bet for the Yankees? Well, alongside striking out 32 batters, he won the Serie del Rey and was even awarded the 2024 Mexican League Pitcher of the Year. So, the Yankees might try him a couple of times to understand what he is capable of, as they are already going through serious troubles at the moment.
