Ben Roethlisberger is feeling rejuvenated after the Steelers’ acquisition of WR D.K. Metcalf and wants to return as QB1

The news of DK Metcalf being traded has garnered a wide array of reactions throughout the NFL world. Metcalf, who requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week, had his wish granted, being sent to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2025 second-round pick on Sunday afternoon.

The Steelers then rewarded Metcalf with a new five-year, $150 million contract. With the Steelers offense now featuring DK Metcalf and George Pickens at wide receiver, Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren at running back, and Pat Freiermuth at tight end, most quarterbacks would salivate at the idea of leading a huddle with this much firepower.

Well, former Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, is definitely one of those QBs, and he took to Instagram (footbahlinwithben/IG) to send a hilarious message to his former coach hinting at coming out of retirement.

“Coach T (Tomlin), are you kidding me? DK Metcalf on one side, GP (George Pickens) on the other, and Muth (Pat Freiermuth) working the middle. I might need to throw my hat in the ring. If you’re looking for a guy, I might still have a couple throws in me,” Roethlisberger said.

With the Steelers question at QB for the 2025 NFL season having yet to be answered, Roethlisberger, 43, joked about coming out of retirement, making himself available to throw to this talented core of receivers. Roethlisberger even threw on (presumably) one of his old Steelers helmets and committed fully his plea to coach Tomlin.

The Steelers next QB remains a mystery, as the team has been reportedly linked to Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, Sam Darnold, and Aaron Rodgers as potential candidates for the job.

Metcalf will be a welcomed addition to the Steelers offense, no matter who’s throwing him the ball. At 27 years old, Metcalf brings 6,384 receiving yards and 48 receiving touchdowns on 438 receptions to the Steelers after six seasons with the Seahawks.
