The Green Bay Packers are only a couple of pieces away from being legitimate Super Bowl contenders, and luckily, they have the cap room to make some moves in the coming weeks and months.
However, the Packers have typically been known as a conservative organization, so some have wondered if Green Bay will actually be willing to shell out big bucks for some top-level players this offseason.
Well, one NFL scout seems to think the Packers will definitely be in the market for some heavy artillery.
“They’re going to be spenders,” one agent said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
Green Bay currently has $42.7 million in cap room, and it can easily open up some more money by releasing/trading some players or restructuring some contracts.
Basically, the Packers have the financial wherewithal to make some impactful moves, which is why we have heard them mentioned as a potential trade destination for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf.
Green Bay has some very clear needs. It should be in the market for a No. 1 receiver (like Metcalf), it needs another cornerback (especially if it moves Jaire Alexander) and it could also use another edge rusher.
Of course, the Packers also have the NFL Draft to try and fill some of those holes, and they tend to draft incredibly well. So, Green Bay will surely be exploring multiple avenues to improve its roster.
We’ll see if the Packers decide to open up their wallets.
