Mookie Betts won a 2024 Silver Slugger Award at the National League utility position, besting Luis Arraez of the San Diego Padres, the Miami Marlins’ Jake Burger and Bryan Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates. It is the seventh Silver Slugger of Betts’ career and sixth in the past seven seasons. He hit .289/.372/.491 with 24 doubles, five triples, 19 home runs and 75 RBI in 116 games this year.

Betts missed nearly two months of the 2024 season because of a left hand fracture but was his usual productive self when healthy.

He is one of three Los Angeles Dodgers to win a Silver Slugger Award this year, joining Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández.

Ohtani topped the Atlanta Braves’ Marcell Ozuna to win his third career Silver Slugger at designated hitter, but first in the NL. Hernández also won his third career Silver Slugger in one of the three outfield selections.

The Dodgers additionally won the team Silver Slugger Award in the National League over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Freddie Freeman (first base) and Will Smith (catcher) were finalists for a Silver Slugger as well, but lost out.

The 2024 Silver Slugger Award winners were determined by a vote of MLB managers and coaches who based their selections on a variety of offensive statistics, including on-base plus slugging, OPS+, home runs, hits, runs, RBI, batting average and overall offensive value.

Mookie Betts moving back to infield

After finishing the 2024 season in right field, the Dodgers again are likely to move Betts back to the infield dirt. The team has not yet fully decided on such a change, nor whether Betts will play second base or shortstop.

They planned on having Betts play second base this past season but Gavin Lux’s struggles required him to be flipped over to shortstop.
