Trade Update: Cowboys ‘Perfect’ Signing of Stefon Diggs Brings 4 Issues

It wouldn’t be a proper offseason without the Dallas Cowboys being linked with receiver Stefon Diggs, and while most of the time, the move was met with derision, now it might make sense.

But make no mistake, there’s a lot to work through.

Yes, the Cowboys need receiver help alongside CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott could do with another speedy option, but is that Diggs?

PFF has Stefon as the Cowboys’ perfect free agent signing.

“Upgrading Dak Prescott’s weaponry should be on Jerry Jones’ wish list, and Diggs is logical for several reasons,” PFF writes. “

Diggs should have a robust market with Tee Higgins no longer available, but he’d be a wonderful intermediate complement to Lamb.

And the veteran receiver could get to be on the same team as – and practice against – his brother Trevon every day.”

There’s a lot to work through here. Firstly, as we know, there’s no such thing as perfect, and in Diggs’ case, his health might not be after coming back from an ACL injury.

Will the Cowboys still feel scorned by the Michael Gallup contract?

Possibly.

Second, yes, the idea of playing with his brother, Trevon, is enticing and exciting, but as anyone with siblings knows, it can go one of two ways.

The pair feed off each other’s competitiveness and take their game to new heights, or it can spiral and get out of control. The last thing Brian Schottenheimer wants is distractions.

Thirdly, will Diggs be comfortable being the No. 2 guy?

Lamb will no doubt get his targets, and last season, Stefon had 64 targets in eight games for the Houston Texans. Will he be content with not getting eight targets per game?

Diggs’s $13.5 APY market value will be far out of the “selectively aggressive” mindset for Dallas, so if Stefon were to come to the Cowboys, it would need to be a team-friendly deal.

So, as we can see, the idea is good, but there are a lot of things to work through, and who knows, maybe the idea of Trevon and Stefon playing together will finally happen.
