On Tuesday of this week, it was reported that the Green Bay Packers had come to an agreement with kicker Brandon McManus on a three-year contract.
After a year-and-a-half of wallowing in kicker purgatory with Anders Carlson and Brayden Narveson, McManus came in and provided consistency at the position that Green Bay missed after they parted ways with Mason Crosby following the 2022 NFL season.
Indeed, the decision to move on from Crosby after 16 years was a highly unpopular one with fans. In his final season with the Packers, he made 86.2% of his field goal attempts and 95.2% of his extra points.
For his career in Green Bay, Crosby made 81.4% of his field goal kicks and 97.3% of his extra points.
He is also the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and was the team’s kicker when they last won the Super Bowl.
Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Mason Crosby Has Announced His Retirement from the NFL

Following his departure from the Packers, Crosby went unsigned for a while in 2023. He got a job on the Los Angeles Rams practice squad and was even elevated for a game, but did not play.
Shortly after they released him, Crosby was signed by the New York Giants, with whom he appeared in three games. He made five of his seven field goal attempts (71.4%) and six of seven extra points (87.6%).
After going unsigned again in 2024, Crosby got a job hosting a radio shown on 1250AM The Fan in Milwaukee. Since he took that position, many assumed that his NFL career was over, and on Wednesday he made it official:
The Packers will sign Crosby to a one-day contract so that he can retire with the organization.

For the majority of his career, Crosby was well-beloved by Packers fans. Sure, he had his detractors in seasons in which he struggled, but Green Bay’s struggles at kicker following his departure made him all the more appreciated.
Needless to say, fans were very grateful in their responses to his retirement announcement:
Now that he is officially retired, Crosby will be eligible for induction into the Packers Hall of Fame in a few years. He will undoubtedly get nominated in his first year of eligibility.
