At least the fans will not have to wait until the end of free agency to start complaining about the Dallas Cowboys not spending money in the offseason.
They might as well start complaining now.
Jones, who appeared at the Zack Martin retirement press conference, told the media assembled on Wednesday afternoon the team will not be reaching out to many free agents this offseason.
He said the team does not have many holes to fill that need to be addressed with bloated salaries through unrestricted free agency.
A week after his son, Stephen Jones, told the media the Cowboys would be “selectively aggressive” in free agency, Jerry Jones issued a correction and modified the team’s stance.
“I don’t think aggressive is the right word,” Jerry Jones said. “I’m not looking at free agency as a place to fill voids.”
Fans can think back to last season when people were wondering if Jones and the Cowboys got the memo free agency started.
They were inactive in the offseason and took their time on contract extensions with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott as well.

This season will be no different in that outside free agents will hardly get a look, but Jones is using best efforts to offer extensions to Cowboys’ veterans who are in line for either a new contract or a raise.
Dallas played beat the clock with defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa on Tuesday as they re-upped the veteran to a new contract before hitting him with the franchise tag.
They also restructured Lamb”s deal to create another $20 million in salary cap space. Jones’ priorities are to keep players like C.J. Goodwin, Juanyeh Thomas and Brock Hoffman.
To see deals get done quickly would make fans forget about last season’s contract debacle.
Do I believe what #JerryJones says? After 35 years, I WEIGH what Jerry says. https://t.co/acVB0kwNeP — fishsports ✭ (@fishsports) March 5, 2025
But before we go overboard here on Jerry’s warning, how about a counter-warning from long-time Jones chronicler Mike Fisher? “
A year ago, Jerry said “all in” when they weren’t,” Fish writes. “Didn’t we learn anything about ‘believing Jerry’? So, do I ‘believe’ his words? Better to say I ‘weigh’ his words.” Related: Cow
