Prior to the 2021 NFL season, Green Bay Packers stars Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams shared the same post on their Instagram accounts. It was a photo of Chicago Bulls legends Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen from the hit documentary, “The Last Dance.” The message of the posts was clear: 2021 would be their final season together, at least as Packers teammates.
That season saw Rodgers win his second consecutive (and fourth overall) NFL MVP Award, completing 68.9% of his passes for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 111.9 passer rating. Adams had 123 receptions (a franchise record) for 1,553 yards (another franchise record), and 11 touchdowns.
Following that impressive year, the Packers traded Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first and second round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The following year, in 2023, they shipped Rodgers to the New York Jets for a first round pick swap, second round pick, and conditional second round pick.
Needless to say, the journeys of both players did not end up being what either had imagined.
Former Green Bay Packers Stars Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams Ended Up Playing Together Again on a Bad New York Jets Team

Rodgers, of course, missed virtually the entire 2023 season with a torn Achilles. In 2024, he had his worst statistical season, completing 63.0% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 90.5 passer rating.
Adams, meanwhile, had a stellar first season with the Raiders in 2022, catching 100 passes for 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns. He made his sixth Pro Bowl and was named First Team All-Pro for the third time.
But the Raiders, to put it lightly, were just not good. In his second year with Las Vegas, Adams had 103 receptions for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns, but was clearly growing more and more frustrated with the organization.
And after playing just three games with them in 2024, he requested a trade. Everyone knew where he wanted to go: to be with Rodgers. Unsurprisingly, that is what happened. Adams ended the season with 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns between his two teams.
But the Jets went 5-12 and, with a new head coach and general manager (along with Adams’ massive cap hit), they decided to release the former Packers star.
Green Bay Packers Fans Want Davante Adams to Come Home

For much of the offseason, Adams has teased a potential desire to return to Green Bay in the event that the Jets released him. Now that he is a free agent, many fans hope that he was not just toying with them:

While the Packers are in need of a wide receiver, there will undoubtedly be more teams trying to sign Adams. As great as it would be to bring him home, Green Bay likely will not win (or try to win) a bidding war.
