Fired-up Martin perfect vs. tough Dodgers lineup

But the battle between worst and first goes to the Dodgers, 6-3

MLB: Spring Training-Chicago White Sox at Los Angeles Dodgers

Well, the Chicago White Sox fell to 2-7 in Spring Training play with an away-home loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Camelback Ranch.

It was a slow game to start off, with not much offensive from either side. This was good for Davis Martin in his start, as he went a quick two innings with no runs, no hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. Tyler Glasnow also had a clean two innings of work.

It won’t take much to make this rotation, but Martin does look to be a lock and a bright spot this year.

World Series MVP Freddie Freeman has picked right back up where he left off, as he slammed a solo shot to right in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 1-0 lead. The White Sox lineup remained in the game into the fifth inning, as Oscar Colás started the inning with a double. With two outs, a Brooks Baldwin walk led the way for an Andrew Vaughn single to tie the game.

Then came a plethora of defensive substitutions for the White Sox in the bottom of the sixth; seriously, the stat sheet took over an entire page on my phone. James Karinchak started the inning and was greeted with a rude awakening by Teoscar Hernández, hitting his first home run of the spring with a solo shot.

Jake Eder saw some time on the mound in the seventh inning, letting up a run on a fielding error by shortstop Tristan Gray. Who? The piling on continued as the Dodgers added two more on back-to-back doubles to extend the lead to 6-1. Eder’s stat line wasn’t the prettiest, as he went a third of an inning with two hits, four runs, two walks, and one strikeout.

Two more runs came in the top of the ninth after Braden Montgomery started off the inning with a walk, and Nick Maton hit a two-run home run to left center.

That would be all she wrote for today. A little bit of a turnaround from the 18-run outing on Saturday, but that was too good to be true, right? The team is back at it tomorrow against the Athletics … baseball team? It’s another afternoon game at Camelback Ranch, with the White Sox back in the home dugout and Sean Burke on the mound.
