The 2025 NFL free agency market will be opening up in the near future and the Green Bay Packers are expected to be a player in it.
Brian Gutekunst has more cap space to work with this year than he has had in recent offseason periods. That could give him the ability to swing a couple of big-time moves.
Last offseason, the Packers became much more aggressive than they had been in years past. They were able to land star safety Xavier McKinney and star running back Josh Jacobs. Both of those moves ended up paying off in a big way.
It would not be shocking to see Green Bay take a similar approach this offseason and try to bring in multiple high-impact pieces.
With that being said, one elite defender is already been linked as a potential top option for the Green Bay Packers.
During an appearance on the “Wilde & Tausch Show,” ESPN’s Rob Demovsky revealed that the team is expected to pursue cornerback talent. He also mentioned a name that he expects the team to show interest in.
“One (agent) told me specifically, this is what he said to me: Your team is going to be a player in free agency this year,” Demovsky said. “This agent was left with the impression that the Packers are going to be in the cornerback, defensive line, and receiver market. One guy that I had heard to keep an eye on with the Packers was D.J. Reed.”
Reed has been a player that Packers fans have been hoping to see the team have interest in.
If Green Bay really does trade Jaire Alexander, they will need another top-tier cornerback. Reed could come in and fill that role for the Packers.
During the 2024 NFL season with the New York Jets, Reed ended up playing in 14 games. He recorded 64 tackles, a sack, and 11 defended passes. He isn’t going to force a ton of interceptions, but he’s a strong cornerback who can cause issues for opposing wide receivers.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what the Green Bay Packers end up doing this offseason. Don’t be surprised if they’re one of the top teams pursuing Reed when the market opens up.
