Patriots Draft Trade Pitch Would Send No. 4 Pick to Raiders

Raiders 30, Patriots 24: New England loses stunner on final play - masslive.com

Oftentimes, teams around the NFL will draft the best available player with whatever pick they have.

Fortunately, the New England Patriots are in a position where they could go either way.

If Travis Hunter falls to them at No. 4, they could take the Heisman Award winner. If Abdul Carter drops to No. 4, they could take the Penn State star.

However, there’s also a scenario where both players are off the board, and the Patriots might believe that if they want to draft somebody like Will Campbell, they could trade back a few picks and still land him.

In a proposed NFL Draft trade from The Athletic, they’d do just that.

The Athletic had the Patriots trading the No. 4 pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for No. 6 and No. 68, allowing the Raiders to select quarterback Shedeur Sanders out of Colorado.

“It’s one of the worst-kept secrets in the NFL that the Raiders need a QB, and they were aggressive in their effort to land their signal caller of the future in the draft. They have an extra third-round pick as a result of the Davante Adams trade, so they didn’t hesitate to ship one out to land their guy: Sanders,” The Athletic wrote.

As a result, the Patriots were able to select Campbell at No. 6, the offensive lineman out of LSU, who many believe is the best prospect in this draft at his position.

No matter what the Patriots do, there isn’t a right or wrong answer. If they end up staying in the top 10 and land somebody like Campbell, Carter, or Hunter while adding another pick or two along the way, fans should view it as a win.
