White Sox pitchers Jonathan Cannon, Davis Martin say competition for rotation is good for everyone - CBS Chicago

With Garrett Crochet and Dylan Cease gone, the White Sox rotation will be lacking the star pitchers at the top, but they do appear to have a decent amount of depth.

Davis Martin and Jonathan Cannon are two of the guys in the mix not just for the rotation, but possibly even their opening day starter as well.

Both are excited about the competition in Sox camp that they hope can help the team maybe exceed expectations.

“When you come into a spring training like this, it’s a lot of competition for sports, and I think that that competition breeds success, and it challenges everyone to be a little bit better every single day — me included — and so I’m really looking forward to that,” said Cannon.

“The overall vibe, it’s like everybody here wants to make the team. Everybody here wants to compete. Everybody here wants to, you know, do a lot of things to extend that career,” said Martin, “so I think that competition is going to leak into every aspect of our day-to-day life here, and I think that’s going to be phenomenal for us.”

The White Sox lost 4-3 to the Kansas City Royals in a spring training game at Surprise Stadium in Arizona on Sunday. The Cubs beat the Texas Rangers 6-5 at Sloan Park.
