Green Bay Packers Urged To Sign 1x 1,000-Yard WR To Prove It Deal For Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers are going to need to make some noteworthy additions to their roster this offseason. During his end-of-year press conference, general manager Brian Gutekunst stated that he believed it was about time for his team to start seriously competing for championships. Given the fact that the Packers have made the postseason in each of the past two seasons, fans took this comment to mean that substantial resources will be spent on veterans in free agency.

One of the positions that many feel the Packers should address on the free agent or trade market is at wide receiver. Christian Watson will be out for most of the 2025 NFL season after suffering a torn ACL in Green Bay’s Week 18 loss to the Chicago Bears. Additionally, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks all had drop percentages between 10-12%.

With Watson out and none of the other wide receivers having stepped up to be Jordan Love‘s go-to target in the passing game, many feel Green Bay should go out and get a bonified number one wide receiver.

Even Green Bay Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs Wants the Team to Sign a Veteran Wide Receiver

In the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX, Packers running back Josh Jacobs told Bill Simmons, “I think we need a guy that’s proven to be a number one wide receiver already.”

Over the course of the offseason, the Packers have been linked to multiple players that could potentially fill this role on the team, including Tee Higgins, Davante Adams, DK Metcalf, and Cooper Kupp. Higgins, however, is likely going to be franchise tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals, and Adams has been linked to the Los Angeles Rams (as has former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers).

And while adding a bonified number one wide receiver would be nice, there simply is no guarantee that the Packers will be able to get one. However, the could make a classic Packers move and sign a respected veteran in search for a chance to prove himself worthy of a larger contract after a one-year prove-it deal in Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers Could Pursue Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in Free Agency

One veteran wide receiver that will be looking for such a contract is Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who was limited to just two games last season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick K. Flowers of Bleacher Nation believes that he should be one of Green Bay’s top-five targets in free agency, writing:

“With Christian Watson set to miss at least the first half of the 2025 season, Hollywood Brown could be a nice buy-low field-stretcher for Green Bay who could come at a reasonable price point after two sub-par seasons in Arizona and a prove-it year in Kansas City that was largely lost to a shoulder injury.”

Brown has battled injuries often in his career and will not be expensive in free agency. His best year came 2021, his third year in the NFL, when he had 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.
