Green Bay Packers linked to major trade with Pittsburgh Steelers | Sporting News

The Green Bay Packers are one of the teams expected to have an aggressive approach entering the NFL offseason. With quite a few needs to address and more cap space than they have had in years, there will be plenty of avenues the Packers could explore.

One of the needs that the front office should focus on is at wide receiver.

Jordan Love could use a true No. 1 target. Green Bay has some quality wide receivers on the roster, but no one who can be a true top target. Adding one elite wideout would take the offense to a completely different level.

With that being said, there is a new option that has been named for the Packers.

Adam Rank of NFL.com has linked Green Bay to Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens.

“Here’s another young receiver who could fetch a nice price from a trading partner seeking a true No. 1 pass-catching option. (Right, Green Bay?) Pickens has been inconsistent, but the Steelers have also trotted out a wide assortment of quarterbacks during his first three seasons in the NFL,” Rank wrote.

“Having him as the top target for, say, Jordan Love would be huge for Matt LaFleur’s Packers offense. The Steelers also get a chance to avoid an uncomfortable conversation with Pickens when the 2022 second-round pick’s contract is up at the end of the 2025 season. And let’s be completely honest, the Steelers have done a great job over the last few decades of moving on from receivers before issues arise, financial or otherwise.”

Pickens would be an incredibly intriguing target for the Packers. He has elite potential, although he has not been able to show all of it throughout his first three years.

During the 2024 season with the Steelers, Pickens ended up playing in 14 games. He caught 59 passes for 900 yards and three touchdowns. His best season came in 2023 when he caught 63 passes for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns.

At just 23 years old, Pickens has plenty of time and room to grow. Landing with Green Bay could help him in a big way. His fit within Matt LaFleur’s offense would be elite.

Obviously, this is just an idea that could make sense. There have been no reports officially connecting the Packers and Pittsburgh. However, Pickens is a name to keep an eye on as an intriguing target for Green Bay.
