‘Ideal level of insanity.’ Rising Patriots coach ran with the bulls in Spain last year

Jeremy Springer is unique among New England Patriots coaches — for a couple of reasons.

The special teams coordinator is one of the few holdovers from Jerod Mayo’s 2024 coaching staff. He also participated in the Running of the Bulls in Spain last summer.

That little factoid came to light when Springer was named to The Athletic’s “50 under 40″ list, which highlights “rising” coaches, execs and personalities in the NFL.

Springer was praised for helping turn around the Patriots special teams unit — and for “his high-level energy and eccentric but personable manner.”

Then there was a little factoid about how the 35-year-old coach spent his time off last summer.

“Springer also might be the only coach on this list who ran with the bulls in Spain in 2024. That’s the ideal level of insanity for a top special teams coach,” The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue and Mike Jones wrote.

It checks out. If you go to Springer’s Instagram page, you can see a picture of Springer (and his twin brother Justin) among a group in the traditional white-and-red outfits worn for the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

As his inclusion on The Athletic’s list shows, Springer is one of the league’s up-and-coming special teams coaches. While much of Mayo’s 2024 season was a disappointment, Springer looks to be a home-run hire.

Before coming to New England, Springer spent two seasons as an assistant special teams coach under Sean McVay with the Los Angeles Rams.
