Baker Mayfield suing his father for millions because of this!!!

With the NFL season winding down, the Buccaneers QB finds himself in a familial dispute.

With the NFL season becoming more dire as teams fight for a playoff spot, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is in the midst of a legal battle.

On Nov. 22, Mayfield’s attorneys filed a lawsuit in the Western District of Texas (Austin) to recover “substantial assets that were improperly taken.” According to the lawsuit obtained by KXAN, it’s alleged that more than $12 million has yet to be repaid by the Camwood Capital Management Group.

In an interesting twist, Camwood is owned by Mayfield’s father, James W. Mayfield, and brother, Matt.

The lawsuit alleges that Camwood transferred more than $12 million from Baker in 2018-2021 without his authorization. Furthermore, the money that was allegedly taken from Mayfield was used as the primary source of funding, payroll and “acquisitions or to cover general operating expenses” for Camwood. Mayfield did not receive any equity or stake in the company as well.

According to KXAN, the history of the lawsuit stems back to August 2023. Mayfield’s legal team filed a petition to see Camwood’s financial records from 2018-2023. The issue was settled confidentiality and Camwood was to begin their repayment in 2024.

At the start of September 2024, Camwood was supposed to pay $11.7 million plus interest, refinance an existing loan that was for the repayment, and provide Mayfield access to their books and records. Camwood did not fulfill any of those conditions.

As for Mayfield’s on-field battles, the Bucs are currently second in the NFC South Standings – the Atlanta Falcons are in first with a record of 6-5 but the Bucs are only one game behind them (5-6). The Bucs will need to win out for the remaining six regular season games, which feature both games against the Carolina Panthers, the Los Angeles Chargers, the Dallas Cowboys and their second game against the New Orleans Saints.

In Week 13, the Bucs will face a Panthers team that has suddenly found a new fire. While the Panthers were able to give the defending Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs, a run for their money, they ultimately fell short. The Bucs on the other hand had a strong outing against the New York Giants yesterday.
