Dodgers Make Surprising Addition, Sign Former World Series Champion

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed outfielder Eddie Rosario to a minor-league deal, per MLB insider Ari Alexander. Rosario was the 2021 NLCS MVP, the season in which the Atlanta Braves won the World Series.

Ironically, Rosario’s best performance came against the Dodgers when the L.A. organization was knocked out by the Braves in the NLCS. The outfielder recorded a jaw-dropping 1.647 OPS over 28 plate appearances against the Dodgers during the 2021 postseason.

Rosario’s MVP-worthy performance propelled Atlanta to sign him to a two-year, $18 million contract. However, since his remarkable October in 2021, Rosario has struggled to perform well as of late.

The veteran outfielder had a lackluster 2024 season, spending the season with three different clubs in an effort to once again make an impact in the big leagues. Rosario landed with the Washington Nationals to start the 2024 campaign, but the team released him in July. He returned to Atlanta, and then spent a brief stint with the New York Mets but got no playing time.

Therefore, Rosario recorded a 175/.215/.316 slash line across 319 plate appearances with both the Nationals and Braves.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Rosario gets a chance to show the defending champions he is worth a spot on the 40-man roster. Although the Dodgers have no shortage of talent on the roster, last season has highlighted how quickly talent can get sidelined because of injury.

Rosario has the opportunity to showcase his talent this spring, and could reap the benefits later on in the year.
