For now, Jason Witten is putting the Dallas Cowboys coaching rumors to rest.

The team’s former tight end told reporters Wednesday night that coaching in the NFL remains one of his long-term goals.

He also said he didn’t talk to Jerry Jones about joining Dallas’ staff this offseason.

“I did not talk to Jerry about it,” Witten said Wednesday. “I think they went through a thorough process for them and got to a place where they felt like Brian [Schottenheimer] was the guy. I’ve never worked with Brian or anything like that, but I’ll always pull for the Cowboys.”

Witten was in Arlington on Wednesday for the presentation of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award. He has notably spent the latest portion of his career as head football coach at Argyle Liberty Christian.

Witten has led the school to back-to-back TAPPS state championships.

The former All-Pro tight end reiterated that he’s grateful for the opportunity to coach his sons at this point in time.

“For me, to be able to coach my sons and take over a program and win back-to-back state championships at that level, it’s been really, really special and memories that I’ll keep with me for the rest of my life,” Witten said. “When the right time and right opportunity comes, I’m excited to kind of embark on that next chapter.”
