Big Ben has a suggestion

The Pittsburgh Steelers, as of now, don’t have a starting quarterback for 2025.
Russell Wilson and Justin Fields split field general duties last season, making the Super Bowl XLVIII champ and the 25-year-old premier candidates for the starting gig next season. Wilson has the experience and Fields has the upside, giving Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin two solid options — but not the franchise’s only options. Former Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, however, has a suggested approach to handling the dilemma.
Not a clear-cut solution, but a suggestion, no less.
“It seems like every day we’re getting a positive story about Russell Wilson and what’s going, and him coming back here,” Roethlisberger said on the “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger” podcast. “And then the next day it’s a negative story about Russell Wilson and him coming back here. And then it’s a positive one about Justin and then a negative (story) about Justin. What in the world is going on? So, I don’t know when there will be an answer for all of this. Again, I’m gonna go back strictly on I’m gonna make it about money. I think the important thing is which guy could you get here for less money so that you could go get a free-agent wide receiver, you could spend money elsewhere? I think you have to figure out what your long-term plan (is).”
Pittsburgh ran with Wilson for its final stretch and took an ugly tumble, losing its final five games of the season, including its AFC wild-card matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Wilson’s behind-the-scenes rift with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith played a major factor in the dramatic exit, and it left the fans of Pittsburgh discouraged about the franchise’s future.
This past season marked the eighth straight year in which the Steelers failed to win a single playoff game.
Team owner Arthur Rooney II isn’t expected to part ways with Tomlin, even though a recent Pittsburgh billboard sighting, called for the longtime head coach to be fired, but changes should come. The Steelers were active at last season’s NFL trade deadline and most notably acquired wideout Mike Williams from the New York Jets and pass rusher Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers.
It wasn’t enough for a Super Bowl trip — or even a wild-card victory — but that shouldn’t deter the Steelers from bouncing back this offseason and making their first major postseason hunt of the decade.
