BREAKING NEWS: Yankees pitcher in hospital after leaving ballpark before spring training workout

Eric Reyzelman

TAMPA, Fla. — The Yankees unexpectedly were one player short during Wednesday’s first spring training practice for pitchers and catchers.

Right-handed reliever Eric Reyzelman, a hard-throwing prospect who had a sensational 2024 season, was sent to a local hospital and admitted after leaving Steinbrenner Field prior to the Yankees’ workout with an allergic reaction.

Reyzelman was in stable condition.

“He’ll be kept overnight for observation and we’ll have another update likely (Thursday),” team spokesman Jason Zillo said.

The Yankees did not announce what caused the allergic reaction.

“There is uncertainty, so we’re going to wait for doctors to give us more information,” Zillo added.

Reyzelman, 23, was invited to Yankees big-league spring training as a non-roster player on the heels of a breakout season.

Pitching at three levels in 2024, the 6-foot-2, 188 pounder relied almost solely on a fastball that touches 99 mph to pitch to a 1.16 ERA in 31 games with five saves and a whooping 63 strikeouts in 38.2 innings.

Reyzelman posted a 1.93 ERA in 21 appearances for the Double-A Somerset Patriots. He also had an 0.00 ERA pitching four rookie level games for the Florida Complex League Yankees and six for the High-A Hudson Valley Renegade.

“I feel like a million bucks right now,” Reyzelman told MIIB.com last September. “I have the most confidence in myself when I get on the mound,”
