The New England Patriots reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with defensive tackle Jeremiah Pharms Jr., per his agency, OSMG_LLC, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
The deal reportedly includes a $100,000 signing bonus and $250,000 in guaranteed money. Pharms played in 16 games last season and recorded 33 tackles, two sacks and five quarterback hits. He was elevated to the role of a starter in five of those games.
There was hope that he’d experience a breakout season after a strong training camp. He appeared in 40 percent of the defensive snaps for the Patriots. Perhaps another year with the team under coach Mike Vrabel can bring out the best in the 28-year-old defensive tackle.
Regardless, it has been quite the journey for Pharms, who went from an undrafted defensive player out of Friends University to playing for the Patriots.
The Patriots will need all of the help they can get along the defensive front, especially with Christian Barmore’s future up in the air. Pharms is coming off the best season of his NFL career, and he could become a solid rotational piece for the team.
