Liverpool made light work of Tottenham on Thursday night with all eyes now on their FA Cup remit.
The Reds kept up their hopes of winning every trophy on offer when they hammered the north Londoners 4-0, overcoming their first-leg deficit. Attention is now on another cup tie, this time with Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle.
Arne Slot has made an incredible impact in his first season but is yet to accomplish anything of note, something he’s been keen to underline as he called on the club to land their first piece of silverware in next month’s Carabao Cup final – but there’s plenty of games to negotiate before that.
Here’s the latest news coming out of Anfield.
Van Dijk adamant Reds have learned lessons
Virgil van Dijk has vowed that Liverpool will learn from last season’s “disappointment” to make sure they do not miss out on trophies. Victory over Tottenham means they’re in the mix for a historic quadruple.
But van Dijk warned they were in a similar situation at the same stage last season when they won the Carabao Cup final for a record tenth time – but failed to add to that. They fell away in the title race and ended up behind Arsenal and champions Manchester City whilst their FA Cup and European hopes ended – but their skipper is determined to have no repeat.
He said: “Everyone has more experience from last year so obviously the end of last season was a little disappointing so when there’s disappointment you have to turn it into experience for the next season.
“If you don’t do that, then you don’t progress. But what I’m seeing now is the players are doing the right things in order to overcome what happened last year.

Fowler reacts to Neville
Robbie Fowler has slammed Gary Neville for suggesting the Liverpool icon would have been a better player at Manchester United. Fowler is the Merseysiders’ seventh-highest goalscorer and the ninth highest in Premier League history – but Neville believes he’s have gone even higher had he played at Old Trafford.
He recently said on the Overlap: “Can I make a controversial statement? Might not even be controversial. Robbie Fowler could have been England’s greatest ever goalscorer, if he hadn’t have grown up in that Liverpool team.”
But Fowler has hit back, insisting his comments reflect unkindly on his former team-mates. He said to talkSPORT: “I mean, that’s disrespectful. In fact, we were probably close to matching Manchester United, certainly when I think of maybe ’96, that year we were brilliant.
“I think it’s disrespectful to the players because I played with great players as well…you are like a product of your environment. I know Manchester United, their environment was maybe changing in terms of the players looking after themselves a little bit better, but they still went out. We know that because we used to bump into them.”

Slot changes sleep patterns
Arne Slot believes one of the secrets of success at Liverpool this season might be a good night’s sleep. The Reds has opened up about the changes made to pre-match habits – opting against following Jurgen Klopp’s plan.
Before home games under the German the players would stay at a hotel in Liverpool, but Slot is now eager for players to stay at home in their own houses before games at Anfield to aid their sleep.
He said: “I can’t compare with how it is. People tell me – and people tell me who know better – that you always sleep better in your own bed than a hotel bed. Sleep is a very important part of getting the best possible performance. It is not only the argument that they are at home with their families but also that they are better prepared for a game.”
