Liverpool might lose Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer and if they do, then a replacement will need to be brought in.

The 26-year-old right-back has been heavily rumoured of a move to Real Madrid as a free transfer and there’s nothing Liverpool can do about it unless they convince him to sign a contract extension, although talks are not looking promising.

Liverpool transfer latest: Star ready to convince Bellingham as Reds find PERFECT midfielder

Almost every report, be it from a Spanish or English news outlet, is clear that Madrid knows exactly who they want to replace Dani Carvajal in the long term and despite having a bid rejected by Liverpool this winter, they will be pouring all their effort into getting a deal done in the summer.

So while Liverpool will still be trying to ensure the scouse native remains on Merseyside, it is also important to be on the ball with potential replacements for Trent if contract negotiations break down.

As such, the latest reports have claimed that the club is already in contact with a player who is a prospect that fans could get very excited about and his profile is flexible enough to cover two positions for the Reds should Arne Slot be successful of convincing him of a move.

Bayern ‘seriously worried’ about losing Kimmich

While the updates on Liverpool’s contract situation with Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent have dominated the news around the club, it is not just the Reds who are concerned about losing players on a free transfer this summer.

Bayern Munich are in a very similar position. The club had been assessing the possible opportunity to sign the Germans’ left-back Alphonso Davies on a free transfer up until recently when he extended his contract with the Bundesliga leaders.

But Joshua Kimmich’s contract is also set to expire at the end of the season, and his situation has yet to be addressed, allowing Liverpool the chance to begin talks about where he might want to play his football next season.

The 29-year-old is an experienced defensive midfielder, who could come in at times to facilitate Ryan Gravenberch’s extensive workload in the position, but he has also been played at right-back throughout his career and excelling in the position.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have made contact with him as there is a growing feeling that he will leave Bayern this season after speaking to him at the start of January, it is understood that the Reds will be in touch again soon if his situation remains the same.

Having never played club football outside of Germany, a move to England is a certain possibility that Kimmich will consider when assessing his options.

Conor Bradley is currently Liverpool’s understudy for Trent and his recent performances have suggested that he is more than capable of taking on the role as Liverpool’s first-choice right-back, if the England international were to leave.

And if that were to happen, then a move for Kimmich could be written in the stars – a player to boost Arne Slot’s midfield stocks, who specialises in performing as a deep-lying defensive playmaker, as well as assisting Bradley at right back, without having to outlay a transfer fee to bring in a new back-up.

Of course, the ball still remains firmly in Bayern’s court, as the midfielder will ideally be looking to extend his stay in Germany and it may well be that Kimmich’s situation has yet to be cleared up because the focus was on negotiating with Davies.
