BREAKING: New York Yankees linked to pursuit of All-Star slugger expected to get over $400 million in free agency next offseason

While the offseason moves for the New York Yankees are likely over, it didn’t stop one prominent MLB insider from speculating about the team pursuing a player that may be the top one available next offseason.

After reaching the World Series in October, they had one goal in the fall in winter. Improve the team so they can better compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers and win it all in 2025. However, the team got off to a rough start when they lost the massive bidding war for All-Star outfielder Juan Soto.

Yet, the club bounced back in a major way following Soto’s departure to the New York Mets. They bolstered the pitching staff by signing All-Star Max Fried and trading for elite closer Devin Williams. Then they improved their defense and lineup by adding former NL MVPs Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. Many around the game believe the team is better now than they were in October.

For the most part, it looks like the New York Yankees roster is set for 2025. But when it comes to the Pinstripes more big moves are always on the horizon. And on Wednesday, New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman claimed the team would “make sense” for the player that could be the most sought-after next offseason.

  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stats (2024): .323 AVG, .396 OBP, .544 SLG, .940 OPS, 30 HR, 103 RBI, 98 R

Could New York Yankees fork over $400 million to Vladimir Guerrero next winter?

“I do think the Red Sox could make sense for Vladimir Guerrero. I do think the Yankees could make sense if he becomes a free agent,” Heyman said in a Bleacher Report live stream. “Coming off a great year, he’s going to get great offers. If it’s $450 million, something like that, sign up.”

There have been rumblings Guerrero Jr. could be traded soon. However, Heyman believes there is no way that team president Mark Shapiro will trade the team’s top player with the executive’s job being on the line in the final year of his contract.

  • Vladimir Guerero contract (Projection): 11 years, $400 million

However, the two sides still seem far apart in contract talks. Some MLB rumors suggest the four-time All-Star could get $400 or more million in free agency later this year. Which would be the third-richest contract ever handed out in league history.
