UNBELIEVABLE!! Patriots Insider Suggests Blockbuster Trade Involving No. 4 Draft Pick

Myles Garrett officially requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns on Monday, and NBC Sports Boston Patriots insider Tom E. Curran believes there’s one opportunity for New England to land the four-time Pro Bowler.

Patriots Insider Suggests Blockbuster Trade Involving No. 4 Draft Pick

“He would, to me, be worthy of considering giving up the fourth overall pick for,” Curran said on WEEI’s “Jones and Keefe” on Tuesday. “Say Myles Garrett says, ‘I’ll go to this team, that team, that team, that team,’ and the Patriots are able to put a structure together, I would include the fourth overall pick for him and not bat an eye about paying him because he is that good.”

Curran did say the Patriots’ chances of landing Garrett are “low” because the defensive lineman is nearing age 30 and will want “an opportunity to win quickly.” However, he still believes the Patriots should consider trading the pick because the draft class’s “quality” isn’t impressive.

“I would move that pick because I don’t think you’re going to get a generational talent,” Curran said. “I don’t think that generational talent really exists in every draft, just by the nature of the phrase, they’re not (there) all the time. This is a pedestrian draft. I’d give up (the pick) for a player like Garrett.”

While Curran’s perspective on the Patriots’ side has merit, the issue is Garrett’s desire for a change of scenery that may not include New England.

“It’s not a decision I take lightly,” Garrett said on the “Rich Eisen Show” on Wednesday. “… Just looking at the trajectory of the (Browns), talking to some of the higher-ups, and I have a lot of respect for them, but I just don’t think that we’re aligned on where the team is going in the near future.”

Garrett continued: “I feel like the window for us athletes is only so broad, and it only continues to close as years go by with anything being able to happen on the field. I want to be able to go out there and compete at the highest levels day in and day out and play for champions. … I just want to go to a contender.”

The former Texas A&M standout didn’t name any specific teams he would like to play for but noted there are “contenders” in both conferences.

“I just want to be in a position to play in those big games and win big games and feel like I can make a meaningful impact and elevate a team and take them over the top,” Garrett said.

Garrett is coming off an incredible season, during which he rattled off his seventh straight season with double-digit sacks. He posted 40 tackles, 40 solo, and 22 for loss, leading the league in that category.
