UPDATE: Jayden Reed’s intense tweet might be a call out to Josh Jacobs’ comment about the Packers needing a true WR1. Hopefully this doesn’t stir up locker room drama

With a young team that has shown promise in the two years since the departure of lightning rod quarterback Aaron Rodgers, it’s not exactly expected that we’d see drama brewing among the Packers at any point in the year.

But especially not in early February.

And yet here we are.

During a radio stint ahead of the Super Bowl on Wednesday, star running back Josh Jacobs, who was excellent in his first season in Green Bay, raised some eyebrows by indicating one big change he’d like to see the Pack make.

He wants to see them add a true No. 1 wide receiver.

Jacobs was asked what piece he would like to see the Packers add in the coming weeks to get the team through a difficult NFC North.

“I think we need like three,” Jacobs said.

He was then asked what he saw as most important.

“We need a WR—a real WR. Love the guys we have, but we need a proven No. 1,” he said.

Now, that caused some brows to furrow. One of the strengths of the Packers, at least as the front office and coaches have consistently said, is the depth of the wide receiver room. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs were hailed as potential No. 1 receivers entering the 2023 season.

Then, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks emerged, too.

Reed led the team with 55 catches for 857 yards last year. Doubs played only 13 games, missing time with injuries and a week’s suspension when he protested his role on the team, but still was second among receivers in catches, at 46.

Shortly after Jacobs’ comments hit social media, Reed himself responded. “Lot of yall Packer fans so fu man bash ya own players shi crazy!” Reed wrote on Twitter/X.

Not long after that, though, Reed deleted the post.

Wicks also responded to Jacobs’ criticism, reposting the quote with a thumbs-down emoji.

The Packers are expected to be involved in acquiring a high-level pass-rusher this offseason, and have been mentioned as possibilities for the likes of Myles Garrett or Maxx Crosby.

A move on a receiver–perhaps former Packers great and Jacobs’ old teammate, Davante Adams–could also be in the mix.
