Los Blancos intend to keep up their streak of signing some of the world’s best players for free with the England international next in their sights, with Madrid pushing hard to sign Alexander-Arnold in January despite Liverpool’s clear stance on not wanting to sell the right-back.
With Alexander-Arnold branded as ‘woeful’ for his performance against AFC Bournemouth, the Liverpool defender will not want his final months with his boyhood club to be a disaster, especially with Arne Slot’s side aiming to win the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
As it stands, Alexander-Arnold looks set to join Madrid in the summer, yet Liverpool have one more plan up their sleeve in regards to trying to keep the 26-year-old defender at Anfield beyond this season.
Liverpool hope silverware can persuade Alexander-Arnold to stay
According to AS, Liverpool hope that winning the Premier League and Champions League and seeing the love and support from fans will be what convinces Alexander-Arnold to stay, with this move seen as the last throw of the dice.
As per the report, Alexander-Arnold’s move to Madrid is 90% completed, with the only factor that can cause the deal to collapse now being of the player himself decides to pull the plug on a move to the reigning La Liga champions.
Yet given the position Liverpool find themselves in both the Champions League and the Premier League, there’s a real chance that winning both major honours could be enough to convince Alexander-Arnold to stay.
Moreover, the Liverpool project under Slot is proving to be one of the most exciting all of Europe, with Alexander-Arnold a player who can play a central role to this potential dynasty if he decides to stay at Anfield rather than move to Madrid.

Who else do Madrid want to sign from Liverpool next summer?
Alexander-Arnold makes sense as a signing for Madrid, with the Liverpool defender arguably the best right-back in the world and someone who is close friends with Jude Bellingham, who is still viewed as the franchise player for Los Blancos.
Yet Alexander-Arnold is not the only Liverpool player the Spanish giants are keeping tabs on, with Ibrahima Konate also believed to be on Madrid’s radar with the French international enjoying a fantastic season with the Reds.
With Ryan Gravenberch also linked with Madrid, Liverpool will hope they can retain all their star players from the La Liga side’s grasp, even with Alexander-Arnold looking like a prime candidate to leave for Spain in the summer.
