Mohamed Salah’s brace was enough to secure all three points as Alisson Becker stole the show for Liverpool with a world-class performance between the sticks for the Reds on the English south coast.
Despite the impressive road performance, one Liverpool player who caught some criticism was Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the England international struggling as Bournemouth’s attackers tormented the 26-year-old defender.
It’s not the first time this season Alexander-Arnold has struggled defensively, and Steve Nicol pulled no punches when analysing the Liverpool fullback’s performance at the Vitality Stadium.

Trent Alexander-Arnold slammed after ‘woeful’ Bournemouth performance
Speaking on ESPN FC, the former Liverpool star blasted Alexander-Arnold’s performance for the Reds against Bournemouth, with Nicol branding the defender as ‘woeful’ in what was a game to forget for the right-back.
With Alexander-Arnold coming off with a knock, the Liverpool defender will want to quickly forget this weekend’s performance at Bournemouth, who could have been home and dry had it not been for the heroics of Alisson.
And Nicol was the most critical of Alexander-Arnold’s performance, with the pundit saying: “I keep looking at Alexander-Arnold, and honestly, today, that whole propaganda that we were listening to at the start of the season about how his defending is better.
“That’s all that was, propaganda, today he was absolutely woeful, so bad. I think he would have been taken off anyway had he not picked up a knock, he was that bad defensively.”
Nicol pulls no punches on Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool performance
With Alexander-Arnold disappointed with his performance against Manchester United last month, the last thing the fullback needed was another disasterclass for Liverpool, and Nicol did not stop short in his analysis of the defender’s display on Saturday.
Nicol added when asked if Alexander-Arnold’s poor performance against Bournemouth could go down due to a lack of effort on the day: “I don’t think it’s a lack of effort, he’s just a fish out of water, he doesn’t know what to do.
“He’s had the Konate’s and the Matip’s and the Van Dijik’s of this world to cover it up, and because Liverpool have had more of the more over the last five years, he can get away with it, but when he’s isolated, oh my, you need to shut your eyes and pray.”
