The New England Patriots enter the offseason with over $120 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.
With a star young quarterback in Drake Maye and money to spend, the Patriots will have an opportunity to land any of the marquee players on the free agency market.
Over the past year and a half, wide receiver Tee Higgins has been viewed as New England’s top target.
The Cincinnati Bengals could tag Higgins, ending his chances of hitting the open market, but it remains uncertain if they plan to do that yet. If not, the Patriots top target would be an easy pick.
Higgins is coming off a season with 10 touchdowns and 911 yards, something New England would love to add to its wide receiver room.
Many expect that to happen if he hits free agency, including Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report. Knox predicted landing spots for free agents, predicting Higgins would land with the Patriots.
“If Higgins hits the market, the New England Patriots should be at the front of the line with an open checkbook. Drake Maye flashed franchise-quarterback potential as a rookie but was saddled with arguably the league’s worst receiving corps,” Knox wrote.
New England’s plan this winter should be to give Maye as many weapons as possible while fixing the offensive line.
Adding Higgins doesn’t change everything, but if the Patriots pick him up and improve the line, they should be in a much better position in 2025.
