The Green Bay Packers could look to significantly upgrade the wide receiver position this offseason, both via free agency and the NFL Draft.
Christian Watson could miss a significant portion of the 2025 season, and the Packers need to continue adding to the talent around Jordan Love in order to continue elevating the young quarterback’s development as well as to take the next step towards competing for championships.
One of the most consistently dominant players at the position, of his generation, may be about to reach free agency and could be an ideal fit for the Packers.
Could the Packers sign Chris Godwin?
TWSN’s Alex Frank suggests Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin could be a perfect fit for the Packers.
“Godwin has been one of the NFL’s best slot receivers since coming into the NFL in 2017,” Frank writes for TWSN. “He may be coming back from a dislocated ankle sustained in Week 7 of the 2024 Season, but he had three straight seasons with 1,000 yards prior to 2024. Even more so, Godwin was on his way to having the best season of his career when he got injured. He was on pace to have 121 receptions, 1,399 yards and 12 touchdowns. Jordan Love has a bevy of really good receivers, but he could use a true No. 1 wide receiver to take the Packers offense to the next level. Chris Godwin could be that receiver.”
Godwin would add an element of reliability for Love and physicality after the catch to the Packers’ offense.
Having won a Super Bowl ring with the Buccaneers, back during the 2020 campaign, Godwin would also add some much-needed veteran experience to a young position group.
General manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers might also be buying into Godwin at the ideal time, given that he is recovering from a dislocated ankle suffered last season, which could keep his price down while motivating him to prove he remains one of the top receivers in the sport.
