Breaking News: Patriots Hiring Longtime NFL Coach in Latest Addition Under Mike Vrabel

Jan 13, 2025; Foxborough, MA, USA; Mike Vrabel addresses media at a press conference at Gillette Stadium to announce his hiring as the New England Patriots head coach.

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has been busy assembling his coaching staff for the 2025 season.

Last week, the Pats made headlines when they hired their new offensive (Josh McDaniels) and defensive (Terrell Williams) coordinators.

In addition to those moves, the Patriots found their new QBs coach (Ashton Grant).

Vrabel has made it a point of emphasis to add people he’s worked with at previous stops this offseason to join his coaching staff.

However, Vrabel switched things up with his latest hire, choosing a proven NFL head coach with experience working with the offensive line, which was a huge issue this season.

According to Joseph Pasteris, the Patriots are reportedly hiring Doug Marrone, who last coached in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints in 2023 as an offensive line coach.

The former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach spent two seasons in the Big Easy.

ESPN’s Patriots beat writer Mike Reiss confirmed the news about Marrone and mentioned that the former NFL head coach was most recently at Boston College, working as a Senior Analyst for Football Strategy.

However, Reiss adds Marrone’s position on the staff will be announced. Even though New England hasn’t announced Marrone’s position, one has to think Vrabel will stick him on the offensive line.

The Patriots’ offensive line was one of the worst in the NFL this season as Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye were sacked a combined XX times.

That said, the Patriots have a couple of young offensive linemen in Layden Robinson and Caedan Wallace, who would be perfect for Marrone to work with.

Robinson and Wallace had up-and-down rookie seasons, but maybe Marrone can get them on track in Year 2 and help turn things around.

Thus far, Vrabel has done a good job of putting the best people on his staff, now Pats fans hope the results will show on the field.
