UNBELIEVABLE!! This Josh McDaniels Reveal Had Patriots Fans Speculating Like Crazy

Josh McDaniels had many thinking he made a told-you-so reveal in a video posted by the New England Patriots social media account Thursday.

This Josh McDaniels Reveal Had Patriots Fans Speculating Like Crazy

“I picked Mike (Vrabel) up from the airport when he came here,” McDaniels said with a smirk.

Those quick to react thought McDaniels meant he picked Vrabel up from the airport after Vrabel agreed to become New England’s head coach earlier this month.

McDaniels, though, as pointed out by Boston Sports Journals’ Mike Giardi, was referring to when he picked Vrabel up from the airport during Vrabel’s playing days.

Vrabel signed with the Patriots before the 2001 campaign and played his next eight seasons in Foxboro, Mass. McDaniels served as a personnel assistant for the Patriots in 2001, his first of 19 seasons in the organization.

McDaniels was considered the favorite to land the Patriots offensive coordinator job as soon as Vrabel was hired. However, if McDaniels really picked Vrabel up from the airport in such a situation, given McDaniels wasn’t yet employed by the team, it would’ve been quite a tell.

It also would have been a slap in the face to those who interviewed with the Patriots for the job McDaniels ultimately received.

Alas, Vrabel and McDaniels are both employees of the Patriots again. But it’s not because of any pitch McDaniels made to Vrabel during a car ride from Logan Airport this month.
