REPORT: Mike Vrabel reveals another Patriots assistant is returning

Mike Vrabel

Jeremy Springer isn’t the only Patriots special teams coach from the 2024 team that’s sticking around.

Springer’s assistant, Tom Quinn, will be back in Foxborough, too. It’s not terribly surprising given Quinn was one of Mike Vrabel’s special teams coaches with the Titans, but his return hadn’t been reported until the Patriots coach revealed it on WBZ. Quinn joined New England’s staff last season.

“I like the dynamic in there (on special teams),” Vrabel said in an interview that will air on Sunday. “I know Tom, he was with us in Tennessee. Veteran coach who had done it. Jeremy is young, exciting, and a great teacher. He’s creative. I think through the interview process and the product they had on the field, it led me to that decision.”

Vrabel has largely overhauled Jerod Mayo’s coaching staff, but it makes sense that Springer and Quinn are sticking around.

After woeful performances on special teams in 2022 and 2023, things stabilized last season and Brenden Schooler blossomed into a First Team All-Pro.

Quinn, 56, has almost two decades of coaching experience in the NFL, most notably serving as the Giants special teams coordinator from 2007-17.

So yes, Quinn is a two-time champion, twice coordinating special teams in Super Bowl wins over the Patriots.

Thus far, Springer and Quinn are the only known members of Mayo’s staff that will be returning next season.
