FRISCO — Every day the optics of the Dallas Cowboys’ head coaching search evolve with new wrinkles and twists. Last week, rumors speculating Deion Sanders’ interest caught fire before true candidates including Kellen Moore and Robert Saleh emerged from the pack.

As of Monday, Sanders is yet to interview like the other two, but somehow Brian Schottenheimer gained steam out of nowhere.

The incumbent offensive coordinator, who worked under the ousted head coach Mike McCarthy, has quickly jumped near the front of the line among candidates …

And it seems there might be a definite answer of some sort about to come down.

How so? As the Cowboys immerse themselves in the process, Schottenheimer now might be on the verge of getting a Cowboys job offer …

Of some sort

“hearing an offer could be coming soon for Brian Schottenheimer,” writes Cowboys radio host Shan Shariff of flagship station 105.3 The Fan.

The 51-year-old Schottenheimer has spent the past two seasons as the Cowboys offensive coordinator. He joined Dallas in 2022 as a coaching analyst under mentor McCarthy.

The son of Marty Schottenheimer, Brian has a lengthy resume as an assistant coach but he has never been a head coach.

His first NFL job came in Washington as QB coach in 2001 under his father. Since then, he’s worked as a QB coach or coordinator for seven organizations.

He also led the Seattle Seahawks offense for three seasons from 2018 to 2020 while working for Pete Carroll. Now this is certainly an impactful decision as the franchise selects a new leader to guide the team.

Is Schotty that leader? Or simply possible part of the solution? Is this about continuing to guide QB Dak Prescott? Or about much, much more?

Amid the wrinkles and twists … stay tuned.
